Janet Alderson-Smith

I was born in Canada and have drawn since I was a child. After studying Fine Arts at McGill University, Montreal, I married and moved to England over 50 years ago. When my family had grown up I took some formal classes; Mixed Media at Coventry Tech and Graphic Arts at Rugby Tech.

During various domestic moves I took a sculpture course in Guildford, oils in Edinburgh and while in Sydney Australia for 4 years attended a Print Workshop where I enjoyed etching. On return to the UK in 2000 I joined Mary Rodger’s group in East Langton to learn watercolours. I now like to paint in acrylic ink because it is so vibrant. Inanimate objects appeal to me and I have a soft spot for cabbages and sheep.

I am a recent past President of the Leicester Sketch Club and in 2008 won one of their prizes. I have regularly participated in Northamptonshire Open Studio exhibits and in 2012 won one of the prizes. In 2013 I won the best watercolour prize at the Town and County exhibition at Northampton Museum. Currently I have a painting in the Kettering Open Exhibition.
