I originally trained at Loughborough Art College and went on to do a BA Hons degree at Bristol Art College before working for many years in the fashion and textile industry in Leicester, London and East Asia.
Originally from Leicester, to my amazement I won the Northants Arts Festival on one of the first paintings I ever did and was awarded my first 3 month solo exhibition by Northampton Gallery '78 Derngate’. A second solo exhibition followed at Kettering Museum and my work is now on display in several UK galleries. I paint daily in my studio in Foxton near Market Harborough and continue to exhibit and develop my own style of work which sells through the Cank Street Gallery in Leicester, other galleries nationally and in Holland and Germany.
My inspiration comes from the process of capturing light and the way it affects mood and creates atmosphere in my paintings. Childhood memories of speckled light, looking up through leaves and petals towards sunlight and shafts of light, changing tones and colours, these are the things that stop me in my tracks and mesmerise me. I like to give an optimistic personality to my paintings and I sign them with ‘TIMM’
I love to share the pleasure and benefits I get from painting so I regularly teach both acrylic and oil painting (and drawing) privately and in small groups, to people of all ages, both beginners and more experienced artists, from my studio in Foxton near Market Harborough, Leicestershire.
