Tony Day

Both of my parents were artistic in their way; my mother painted in watercolours and enjoyed creating portraits. My father was an architect and during his very short retirement started to become more expressive through the medium of batik.

Following the diagnosis of Parkinson's disease 'many moons ago' painting has given me much pleasure in my life, and is one of several sources of inner strength enabling me to cope with the unforgiving nature of this condition.

My paintings often contain a lot of colour, with different shapes and textures. I use different mediums, sometimes several in one picture. Some of my paintings leave it to your imagination to interpret them. Others I hope just lift your mood!

The source of inspiration for my work is more often a response to an event or need to express an emotion through a painting, rather than trying to paint what is in front of me. In recent years there has been another influence in my paintings which produces work based on free movement.
